He said this while inaugurating the 7th National Council of the Jatiya Party Friday morning at the Engineers' Institute. At the council, Ershad said that India was Bangladeshs friend and expressed the hope it would not take any step that might harm Bangladesh. He also commented on the activities of the past caretaker government and the role of Election Commission. HM Ershad asked his supporters to help him develop the country with the Grand Alliance. He also wants party members to unite and strengthen the party. Among the presidium members, Begum Rowshan Ershad, Kazi Zafar Ahmed, JP acting chairman Anisul Islam Mahmud, ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader and Ziauddin Bablu were present at the meeting.
