NYPD Cop Punches Protester at Occupy Wall Street, 10/14/11

Journalist and Reason contributor Michael Tracey is covering New York's Occupy Wall Street as it's happening. Above is footage he shot as the protesters marched through the street of Manhattan and had various stand-offs with the New York Police Department. Tracey himself reports being punched in the shoulder while filming. In the above video, around the 1.40 mark, a white-shirted NYPD officer decks a protester in a green shirt (how the incident started is unclear). Reason.tv's Meredith Bragg edited the video above from about 20 minutes of footage. NYPD rushing a shot cop to Bellevue Jan 31 2012

Recorded January 31, 2012. 9.30pm. Various twitter feeds report a cop shot at 370 Bushwick Ave in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They rush him to Bellevue Hospital. Most traffic feeding onto the main route leading to the hospital was blocked off at least 5-10 min in advance of the emergency vehicles. edit: I was on the northbound M15 select bus when I began noticing cop cars at various intersections along the route beginning at Delancey St. As the bus headed up First Avenue, maybe half a dozen cop cars sped in front of the bus. Eventually the bus reached E 24th St where I began recording. I didn't know what was going on until later. The full footage is actually 5 and half minutes long. but in the interest of time, I cut away most of the dull moments. I counted at least 36 among the initial escort in the video, then there's a 1 and a half min lull (edited out) before 7 more vehicles pass by. Then another 1 min lull before two suburbans roll by with maybe the mayor or ray kelly in it flanked by black cars with a hatzolah ambulance trailing it (not on video). ----------- canon elph 300 hs night low light video test ny new york nyc manhattan

An afternoon with the NYPD

Share on Facebook and Twitter #NYPDvsJOKE Here's the scene: We were enjoying the nice spring weather from our balcony. A friend was visiting on his bike, and he rode up on the sidewalk from the street to our front door. In NYC this is illegal. You are supposed to stop in the street, get off the bike and walk it on the sidewalk. Although he was merely coming from the street up to our front door, those few second were illegal. NYPD rolls up, and I begin to film as they are issuing him a summons to appear in court. Meanwhile our neighbor walks by while this scene is unfolding. My neighbor and my friend on the bike exchange some banter. No one is offended. We all laughed. He keeps walking. From there everything escalates... Seems completely unnecessary to me... At the end of the day, my neighbor was charged with harassment, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Welcome to an afternoon with the NYPD UPDATE: All charges against my neighbor were dropped on January 12, 2012, nine months after the incident occurred.

NYPD racially profiling Muslims confirmed

If you think racial profiling in the US is a thing of the past, think again. Recent reports confirm that the NYPD have covertly been monitoring and spying on Muslims. Some of the actions include gathering information on Mosques, Muslim owned businesses and following Muslim college students. Although the Muslim Americans haven't been tied to any terrorist groups, NYPD continues to violate the privacy of these individuals. NYPD KICKS DOOR BEFORE SHOOTING UNARMED BRONX TEEN

Surveillance video outside the Bronx home of Ramarley Graham shows police struggling to enter the residence and kicking in a door moments before an NYPD officer shot and killed the unarmed 18-year-old in his bathroom. While surveillance footage from a neighboring home showed Graham running down the street with police pursuing, this footage obtained by WPIX 11 shows Graham casually entering his house. Seconds later two NYPD officers with their guns drawn attempt to break down the door. Commissioner Ray Kelly told reporters on Friday that the officer who shot Graham, 30-year-old Richard Haste, shouted "Show me your hands!" and "Gun! Gun!" at the teenager before shooting him in the chest in his bathroom. But the only other person in the apartment at the time, Graham's 58-year-old grandmother Patricia Hartley, told the Times through friend of the family Carlton Berkley that she heard no such thing. Additionally, residents of the apartment dispute the NYPD's assertion that the officers announced themselves when forcibly entering their home. Also at issue is the manner in which Hartley was treated: Berkley says she was held at the 47th Precinct for seven hours so that she could give police a statement. "She gave it against her will," Berkley, a retired police detective says. "She didn't want to speak to police." Paul Browne, the NYPD's spokesperson, said that Hartley was "naturally upset but cooperative," and said she actually spent five and a half hours speaking with police ...

M22 NYPD's Nightly Eviction of Occupy Union Square

NYC, March 22: Night Four of the Occupation of Union Square. As has become a nightly ritual, NYPD closes the park at midnight with a show of brutal force, barricading off the steps, and in an echo of the eviction of Zucotti Park, use as a rationale a cleansing of the park sanitation workers testify Union Square never normally sees. A cop pushes a young woman down steps. A man is arrested on suspicion of having fallen asleep. Fear and doubt are quite visible in the faces of the police, whose ranks include an counter-terrorist agent and a squadron in riot gear. Changing orders and promises as they go, the police gradually take over the park, pushing the people out as they set the stage for the sanitation workers. The homeless who have long found a haven in the park are driven out along with the protesters.

NYPD Goes Undercover to Incite Violence

The 99% protests peacefully, and the NYPD tries to incite violence. When I saw this happen, I thought a peaceful protestor was being assaulted. Now that I have had a chance to look over the footage, I am sure that is not the case. What cop shoves a man in the chest and immediately looks away? Only a cop who is certain there will be no retaliation or reaction by the protestor. Given the number of stripes on this officer's coat, he is a white shirt. Why are the white shirts so hell bend on causing violence to preserve their authority? Because, if we remain non-violent they can only control us by taking away our constitutional rights. Shortly after this video was taken the NYPD suspended the 1st amendment and arrested many peaceful protestors. We demand the NYPD and police forces around the country abide by the US constitution and allow the 99%'s right to peaceful assembly and protest.
