Liverpool Paseo Interlomas | Rojkind Arquitectos [HD]

Understanding the new role shopping centers play in today's society, in which they have become a magnet for social encounters and even cultural exchanges, Rojkind Arquitectos was commissioned to design a façade for the new 30000m2 department store as part of a new era in the company's pursuit for re-branding itself. Liverpool department stores, with a 164-year-old history, have for the most part always been one of the main anchor stores for large shopping centers in Mexico. Its strategic location plays an important role in the immediate urban context. Located in the northern "car dependent" suburb of Interlomas on the outskirts of Mexico City, this relatively new suburb is characterized by a lack of open public space and a myriad of roads on which pedestrians are not welcomed. The new facade responds to a fast pace of the everyday life in this isolated suburb, sitting in the middle of a very congested intersection of highways and overpasses, which give it a futuristic "Blade Runner-like" feel. With an existing circular footprint, the customization process of fabricating directly from 3D models drove the ideas behind the façade design intent. Speed became a very important factor in the way the project is experienced. Flexibility, fluidity and dynamism drove the design process. The double-layered façade shelters the store and it's users from its chaotic environment. It's sleek stainless steel machine-like exterior, is intended to evolve in a very fluid way as the intense ...

Mexico City : A Modern Knowledge City [HD]

As in any megacity, Mexico City faces a variety of environmental challenges. Urban growth, combined with a rising middle class population, today requires innovative thinking and policies in urban planning, transportation, air pollution, water scarcity and solid waste, among others. Mexico City has adopted a 15-year Green Plan to address these environmental challenges simultaneously. Mexico City is also providing global leadership to promote sustainability among world cities; a recent global summit of mayors, hosted by Mayor Marcelo Ebrard, resulted in more than 300 cities signing The Mexico City Pact, an agreement to address climate change and reduce GHG emissions.

For his first residential commission in New York City, master architect Frank Gehry has reinterpreted the design language of the classic Manhattan high-rise with undulating waves of stainless steel that reflect the changing light, transforming the appearance of the building throughout the day. Gehry's distinctive aesthetic is carried across the interior residential and amenity spaces with custom furnishings and installations. ©DBOX

56 Leonard Street

56 Leonard Street, a 56-storey residential tower in New York designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron, the tower will be built on the corner of Leonard Street and Church Street in Tribeca. A specially commissioned sculpture by Anish Kapoor will sit at the corner of the building at street level. The tower will house 145 residences, each with its own unique floor plan and private outdoor space, in a veritable cascade of individual homes blending indoors and outdoors seamlessly together. With its articulated surfaces, dramatic cantilevers, profiled slab edges, profusion of balconies, expanses of glass, and views from downtown Manhattan to as far as the Atlantic Ocean, Herzog & de Meuron's 56 Leonard Street breaks down the old image of the high-rise as a sleek, hermetically sealed urban object to propose instead a thoughtful, daring and ultimately dazzling new alternative © Tronic / Alexico Group

Bank of America Tower at One Bryant Park | Cook + Fox Architects [HD]

Designed by New York-based Cook + Fox, the conceptualization behind the sleek volume, which rises gracefully from its base at One Bryant Park, is rooted in ideas of biophilia -- the innate relationship between nature and man. Constructed to respectively take its spot as the second tallest building in NYC [soon to be the third after the Freedom Tower and the Empire State Building], the sustainable tower marks the first LEED Platinum commercial skyscraper in the world. Check out this short click featuring Principal Richard Cook as he offers a deeper explaination of how biophilia informed not only the formal attitude of the architecture, but also shaped the experiences and atmosphere of this 2200000 sqf skyscraper. © Cook + Fox Architects

Garden Santa Fe | KMD Architects

Designed by KMD architects for the heart of Santa Fe, Mexico the multi-use Parque Centro buries 65000 square feet of shopping and entertainment facilities and three levels of parking space without impacting the city's green lung above ground. Nor are shoppers plunged into cold darkness thanks to deep, glazed conical skylights that provide tons of natural light and warmth. The sprawling underground mall features a bevy of shops and entertainment areas, as well as enough parking to tuck away 1600 cars. Aboveground revelers will be oblivious to all this as they enjoy Santa Fe's central park complete with water features, trees, a jogging track, grass and a performance area. Far from a dungeon, large, glazed conical lights will funnel light into the mall without creating excess solar gain. The green-roof (the park) will insulate the building and reduce the need to air-condition the facility. Natural ventilation will ensure superior air quality and temperature, which combined with on-site solar electric facilities create one of Mexico's most sustainable buildings.
