India commissions nuclear submarine INS Chakra-NewsX

India today inducted the Russian-origin nuclear-powered submarine 'Nerpa' into the Navy, joining the elite league of nations having such sophisticated warships. Defence Minister AK Antony formally commissioned the Akula II class Nerpa, rechristened 'INS Chakra', into the Navy at the Ship Building Complex here. "INS Chakra will ensure security and sovereignty of the country," Antony said after commissioning the vessel. India has earlier leased and operated a Charlie Class Russian nuclear submarine from 1988 for training its personnel on such warships. With the induction of INS Chakra, India has joined the elite group of nations with nuclear-power submarines after a gap of two decades. With INS Chakra and the indigenous INS Arihant expected to start operational patrols soon, India will soon have two nuclear submarines guarding its vast maritime boundaries. Japan Marks Anniversary of Fukushima Nuclear Accident

A year later, decontamination and construction crews are still working to clean up the nuclear disaster at Japan's Fukushima Dai-ichi Power plant. Experts expect the cleanup will take decades and cost tens of billions of dollars. The earthquake and resulting tsunami that hit Japan 's east coast last March 11th was one of the biggest the world has ever recorded, killing nearly 16000 people, injuring 6000 and causing another 3000 to go missing. But the natural disaster was eclipsed by news of the nuclear one, which was the worst since the Chernobyl meltdown in 1986. Japan's struggles in dealing with Fukushima captivated the world's attention for weeks, as a small group of men in radiation suits fought to cool the plant's damaged and burning reactors. 200000 area residents were evacuated. Polling shows public opinion around nuclear power also remains damaged, with the possible impact of natural disasters on plants and the power to contain damage still in question. Eleven US power companies are currently seeking license extensions for 15 nuclear power plants across America built decades ago. In the wake of Fukushima, the future of old plants, and the viability of new ones, hangs in the balance.

Iran agrees to nuclear talks

The drums of war have been beating louder and louder. From the beginning of nuclear predicament Iran has claimed their nuclear program is strictly for energy purposes. In an effort to avoid a possible war Iran has agreed to take part in nuclear talks. This comes after tough sanctions imposed on Iran by the US and the West. Earlier in week during the AIPAC conference, President Obama said to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that diplomacy efforts should be given more time, and they have apparently worked. Reza Marashi, research director of the National Iranian American Council, joins us to see if these talks will avoid a potential war. Like us and/or follow us: twitter.com www.facebook.com

MSM: Nuclear Fear Mongering

According to the New START Treaty, Russia and the US have agreed to cut their nuclear arsenals to just above 1500 warheads each. So cutting the US arsenal of deployed warheads up to 80%, as drastic as it sounds would still leave the US with between 3 to 4 hundred of them. If you really need this put into perspective just consider the fact that you have politicians and pundits calling for a war with Iran over the possibility that they may one day have one nuclear warhead. And you have FOX News talking about a reduction in nuclear weapons as if it's going to lead to the end of America.

Iran nuclear scientist 'killed' by car bomb

A nuclear scientist who supervised a department at the Natanz uranium enrichment facility has been killed by a magnetic bomb placed on his car by two assailants in northern Tehran, Iranian media reported. The attack strongly resembles earlier killings of scientists working on the country's controversial nuclear programme. The bomb explosion killed Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, a chemistry expert and a director of the Natanz facility in central Iran, the semi-official Fars news agency reported. Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi said Israeli agents were behind the attack, but said they cannot "prevent progress'' in what Iran claims are peaceful nuclear efforts. 'CIA & Mossad penetrated Iran via UN nuclear mission'

US Senate lawmakers have released a plan for a new round of sanctions targeting Iran's energy sector. The bill aimed at choking funds, used by Tehran to allegedly develop nuclear weapons, will be mulled over on Thursday. But while Washington shows no sign of easing up on Tehran, Iran's Foreign Minister has welcomed the extension of the IAEA mission in the country. A team of UN nuclear inspectors may now prolong their stay in Iran beyond the initially planned three days. The minister was optimistic about the possible renewal of nuclear negotiations saying the IAEA visit is a step towards easing the tensions. However, American Radio host, Ralph Schoenman is skeptical about the talks as he thinks the UN body is under too much western influence. RT on Twitter twitter.com RT on Facebook www.facebook.com

India set to induct nuclear-powered submarine into its fleet

Vishakhapatnam, April 04 (ANI): India is set to become the sixth country in the world to operate a nuclear-powered submarine after the induction of the INS 'Chakra' into the Navy today. Originally named the K-152 Nerpa, the Russian-built INS 'Chakra' is classified as an 'Akula II' attack submarine and weighs over 8000 tonnes. It is powered by a nuclear reactor that gives it greater power and endurance. However, it does not carry nuclear weapons. On January 23 this year, the submarine began its journey under the command of Indian Navy personnel, from Vladivostok in Russia to its Indian base Vishakhapatnam. Construction on the INS 'Chakra' first began in 1993, but was delayed for about a decade due to lack of funds. On being resumed in 2004, the submarine underwent final adjustments in 2010.

IRAN LOADS UP FIRST NUCLEAR FUEL RODS

IRAN LOADS UP FIRST NUCLEAR FUEL RODS Now, no doubt we will be told over the coming days how dangerous to the world that ahmadinejad has the capability of enriching uranium - but we must not forget that iran had told the IAEA that they were willing to let other countries ship in already enriched rods for the program. So in turn, the west forced Iran and Ahmadinejad to enrich his own uranium, and thus giving more reason to attack the country at a later date Article from Sky News UK: Iran has started loading domestically made nuclear fuel at a major research reactor for the first time - a defiant move in response to toughening Western sanctions. The loading ceremony, at the plant in Tehran, was attended by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and filmed on state TV. Iran's deputy nuclear negotiator Ali Baqeri said the country had developed its own nuclear fuel because the West had refused to help them. There were also reports, on state TV, that Iran was starting to use new advanced centrifuges at a uranium enrichment site in Natanz. The centrifuges are made of carbon fibre, are domestically produced, and greatly speed up uranium enrichment activities, Iran said. The news came as Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Iran of destabilising the world and called for its aggression to be halted. Mr Netanyahu referred to a series of bomb attacks this week in India, Georgia and Thailand, which Israel has blamed on Iran. Iran has denied the attacks, two of which targeted ...
