TEDxHouston 2011 - Wade Adams - Nanotechnology and Energy

Dr. Wade Adams is the Director of the Smalley Institute for Nanoscale Science and Technology at Rice University. The Institute is devoted to the development of new innovations on the nanometer scale. Some of the institute's current thrusts include research in carbon nanotubes, medical applications of nanoparticles, nanoporous membranes, molecular computing, and nanoshell diagnostic and therapeutic applications. Wade was appointed a senior scientist (ST) in the Materials Directorate of the Wright Laboratory in 1995. Prior to that he was a research leader and in-house research scientist in the directorate. For the past 36 years he has conducted research in polymer physics, concentrating on structure-property relations in high-performance organic materials. He is internationally known for his research in high-performance rigid-rod polymer fibers, X-ray scattering studies of fibers and liquid crystalline films, polymer dispersed liquid crystals, and theoretical studies of ultimate polymer properties.

Nanotechnology in Russia

From making tiny tubes of carbon only one atom thick that could one day support an elevator that travels to space, to a company in Siberia that makes brilliant red diamonds from ordinary graphite, we're showing how Russian scientists and engineers are leading the world in designing these tiny triumphs. We also profile a forgotten Russian genius who discovered the world's first "nano-device" -- something we couldn't live our modern lives without. Source: rtd.rt.com

euronews science - Nanotechnology to combat diabetes

www.euronews.net All over the world scientists are using nanotechnology to create new treatments for diabetes. For years, researchers and patients have been dreaming of an insulin pill that could save diabetics from frequent injections. But the fact that digestive acids in the stomach destroys the insulin before it can enter the bloodstream has been a major obstacle until now. In Coimbra a team of Portuguese researchers have overcome that obstacle with the development of a biodegradable polymer-based nanoparticle.

First Review: Nokia HumanForm Nanotechnology

Nokia and how its using Nanotechnology! absolutely stunning! wwww.nokia.com At the recent Nokia World event in London, the company showed off a prototype of a handset with a flexible screen, which allowed it to be used in several interesting ways. Now, a new video has hit the net showcasing the future of flexible phones according to Nokia. Called the HumanForm, this concept phone has a strange elliptical shape and is completely flexible, letting you twist it around however you want. The whole phone acts like a transparent touchscreen, which means pressing any part of it will let you operate it. The HumanForm phone also lends insight into Nokia's focus on using nanotechnology to enhance user experience. It claims to be able to realise a caller's moods and change the ringtone accordingly. But of course, the focus of the video remains on the flexible screen technology and its interactions, such as twisting the screen to zoom in and out.

Nanotechnology for Environmental Remediation

January 25, 2012 -- One Cell One Light with Dr. Hildegarde Staninger and her guests DR. ZHONG LIN (ZL) WANG nanoscience.gatech.edu and MICHAEL EDWARD blueplague.org Throughout history, new technology has brought a sense of wonderment and fear to those unfamiliar with it. In post-Civil War America, the steam-powered engine brought the possibility of speedier travel, but also the fear of cultural pollution brought about by this ease of movement. Currently, technology changes so rapidly that it often goes unnoticed -- incremental improvements to products we already own don't alert the deep-rooted fear of the unknown that we all share. But with a the practical application of a once-theoretical nanotechnology rapidly becoming reality, those fears are once more rearing their ugly head. But, are they warranted? Dr. Staninger welcomes back to the program Dr. Zhong Lin (ZL) Wang, head of a leading group in nanoscience and nanotechnology at the Georgia Institute of Technology; and Michael Edward, who continues to be involved in the research into the health and toxicity problems following the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil disaster, to discuss the practical applications of nanotechnology remediation and cleanup of toxic substances in the environment. After the April 2010 explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil drilling platform, nearly five million gallons of crude oil flowed unabated into the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, affecting the coastal waters and beaches of Texas, Florida ...

What you take from this video and hopefully from others you've seen is up to you. But please hear me when i say, The main issue people studying nanotechnology states is "nanotechnology can be used to cure all forms of diseases and help create a safer healthier earth" What they dont say is that the same nanobot that enters your cells and brings certain necessities for healing or other purposes, could also bring toxins which could further dumb down the population, reduce fertility etc..... And that these are so small that even hospitals wouldnt detect them inside their government issued vaccines. Take from this what you will. ***IMPORTANT*** The following may be disturbing........... This link leads to a video that talks about creating a nanobot exactly like the dna double helix. If they perfect this, they could literally REWRITE DNA!!!!!!!!!! Molecular nanotechnology: The second industrial revolution!

It´s been claimed that nanotechnology will lead to a second industrial revolution. That might sound like an overstatement, but I don´t think it is. The most promising aspect of nanotechnology is molecular nanotechnology, which will enable us to build atomically precise structures. With help from molecular assemblers/nanofactories we can make raw materials that today are considered to be of almost no value into fantastic super-products almost for free. This can help to solve our challenges of resource scarcity, global warming, and global poverty. ABOUT THE LICENSING OF THE MATERIAL I´VE USED A lot of the pictures I´ve used are in the public domain. And a lot of pictures have a Creative Commons license. You can find links to all the different pictures with CC-license I have used here: (link will appear soon). The links will give you information about the copy-right-holders. Thank you very much to all of the people who have released your work into the public domain, or given it a CC-license! I believe that my use of book-covers qualify very clearly as being fair use: en.wikipedia.org The animation of a nanofactory, as well as the digitally produced image portraying a nanofactory, were produced by Lizard Fire Studios (John Burch): lizardfire.com, and funded by a challenge-grant from nanorex.
