FDNY Truck 4, Engine 54 Smoldering Building, Hook and Ladder Deployment (Windows Opened not Broken)

Hats of to the FDNY. Read this for a message I'd like to give to you guys. First thing to mention here is my use of the words 'Windows Opened Not Broken'. This is an important thing to notice about the awareness and courtesy present in the attitudes of the firefighters of New York. Just the fact that the second set of windows gets opened to relieve the smoke condition, instead of broken, is such a great example of a firefighter that knows what the hell he is doing. These are not things to be taken for granted. Anyone can shove an axe through a glass window but, knowing that you don't have to and saving it is a whole different thing. This is a 13 minute video, and if you are looking for a blazing fire, it's not going to happen. When I shot this vid I was walking down Broadway and noticed fire trucks heading down a one way street the wrong way. In showing this to a friend who is an FDNY captain, he suggested I render it and post it, that it might be good for observation by other firefighters. It isn't very exciting for the standard Youtube audience, but maybe serves some purpose to watch the deployment and protocols. In another experience I had directly with FDNY some time after this, I have to say this... I've got a lot of friends that are FD, PD etc... But being in experiences directly with you guys, is different then just knowing you. I've seen what I need to see enough to take my hat off to you guys. I wouldn't be able to do what you do every day. You guys kick-ass. I'm ...

Police Attacked by Mob, FDNY Use Water Cannon on 50 "Teens" in NY Riot

In case you haven't figured it out yet, "teens" is now the official media code word for blacks. The video accompanying this article clearly shows that the "teen" rioters were black. Curiously, this doesn't appear to be a typical flash mob crime. Instead, the blacks apparently formed a sort of lynch mob for one of their own, who had somehow made a lot of enemies in the local project. An article from Silive.com, a local website in New York City, reports www.silive.com "...The scene unfolded at about 3:30 pm in front of 83 Harbor Rd., where a large group of teenagers had amassed to confront a teenage girl who lives in the residence. By the time it was over, two officers were sent to Richmond University Medical Center, West Brighton, for treatment, and nine teens ended up under arrest, said Inspector John Denesopolis, the 120th Precinct's commanding officer. Police also recovered a starter pistol, he said. The officers were OK, but 'banged up,' Denesopolis said." "'It was chaos,' said one neighbor, who lives across the street but declined to give his name, stating that he feared retaliation. 'The yelling got louder and louder... There was probably 50 to 55 kids out here, and they were challenging one girl.' The group was threatening the girl, yelling at her to come out and fight, witnesses told the Advance. That sparked calls to 911, and two officers, one male, the other female, arrived at the scene." "The male officer attempted to arrest a member of the crowd, and the teens ...

FDNY Vulcan Society member descriminates against white applicants

This black FDNY lieutenant tries to explain to these white fire fighter applicants that they aren't on a certain list to be allowed into the FDNY test prep. This is supposedly the Vulcan society member in charge of the test prep event. Some of the people in this video were waiting on a line to enter the test prep building for up to an hour and a half before the required entry time, yet they were barred from the classes (while black candidates were allowed to pass by them) because they weren't on some list. He was unable to tell us how the list was generated and said that it was too late to be allowed entry now. The email that the Vulcan society sent out says that you could either send them your information at any time to be allowed entry to the test prep; or just show up at any site on any day. The NYPD was called to dispatch us from the building. After we were outside the gates of the school, two black fire fighter candidates were allowed entry into the building.

We are at the quarters of FDNY Engine 63 and Ladder 39, where we basically see nothing but replacements. Engine 63 and Ladder 39 are both out for repairs, so for the time being, Engine 63 has a spare, while the spare for Ladder 39 is about to head out for another spare (this one being an actual tiller ladder). In the meantime, Ladder 37 is here to cover while spares are swapped. All the meanwhile, the quarters for 63 and 39 is being renovated for the next couple of years, so everyone there is living in trailers adjacent to the house itself, while Battalion 15 is with Engine 66 in Co-Op City. At the time of this video, we see the spare of Engine 63 as it goes out on a run of a gas leak at an unknown location. FDNY "Black Sunday" Bailout - Jeff Cool Interview

This video clip is narrated by Jeff Cool from Rescue 3 of the FDNY. It's a small segment taken from the IAFF Fire Ground Survival Program. The video recaps the events that took place at a tenement fire on January 23, 2005 in the Bronx, New York - Which killed Lt. John G. Bellew and Lt. Curtis Meyran and caused severe and critical injuries to Lt. Joseph DiBernardo, FF Jeffery Cool, FF Eugene Stolowski and FF Brendan Cawley. Firefighter Survival is comprised of many elements including having the ability to rapidly and safely exit from an upper floor when conventional exits are blocked or non existent. Carrying a Personal Escape System and knowing how to rapidly deploy it in the worst of all conditions can not only save your own life, but also a fellow Firefighter or a Civilian. Train, Be Prepared, Stay Safe, Make the Save - SURVIVE! Dale G. Pekel

The FDNY Presents: Hot Dog Saves the Day

Members of the FDNY this year uncovered a "long-lost" video reel depicting a generations old fire safety campaign. The silent black-and-white film demonstrates that while technology may have changed over the years, the FDNY's dedication to fire safety has not. Make sure to change the batteries in your smoke detectors for Daylight Saving Time.

FDNY 1988 Mack Alcohol Foam Engine 206 start-up

We are on Grand Street near Metropolitan Avenue in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, where we are treated to a start-up of FDNY Alcohol Foam Engine 206, which is housed with Hazmat 1 and Engine 206 (which happened to be on a run at the time). One of the firefighters who happened to be there (most likely awaiting the shift change) was kind enough to let me in and show me the rig. Foam 206 is a 1988 Mack. There are a couple of these rigs still around, but they are hard to find. This engine has the old school grill with the gyro light in the middle, as well as old ditch lights and flashers on the roof. The rear is retrofitted with a foam pump as well as a large holding tank and converter. Enjoy the sight of this engine, as well as the excellent Mack growl it gives off. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome. The video was taken on March 5th, 2012.
